Botanical Garden of Güímar near Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The Ethnographic Park Pirámides de Güímar was kicked off in 1998 by Norwegian researcher Thor Heyerdahl. He worked hard to protect a set of six mysterious pyramids found near Güímar, in the southeast of Tenerife, making sure they’d be studied and preserved. We’ve chatted about the Pyramids in another post, so now let’s dive into the stunning botanical garden that’s part of this park!

At the Botanical Garden, you can explore an awesome variety of plant collections spread across more than 20,000 square meters. These botanical exhibits are all about scientific conservation and meeting cultural and educational needs.

Poisonous Garden

One of the coolest spots you can check out at the Botanical Garden de Güímar is the Poisonous Garden, where you’ll find over 70 species of toxic and even lethal plants from all around the globe. This unique space showcases all sorts of plants that have been used throughout history to whip up poisons and deadly potions. Not many botanical gardens out there can brag about having such an amazing collection of poisonous plants!

Sustainable Garden

Another awesome spot is the Sustainable Garden, created in partnership with the University of La Laguna. It brings to life the flora and fauna of a typical Canarian canyon and showcases what sustainability and conservation of natural heritage can look like.

You’ve gotta check out this amazing park! It’s got the pyramids, a botanical garden, an auditorium, and a museum. The park’s open every day from 10:00 to 18:00. You can grab the basic ticket for 12.50 euros or go for the premium ticket at 18 euros, which gets you into the poisonous garden too.
