Get ready for an amazing journey in the north of Tenerife that mixes history, culture, and nature! Today, I’m taking you on a tour between La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz, two gems you can’t miss if you’re after authentic experiences on the island.
La Orotava
La Orotava is a spot that blends tradition, stunning architecture, and breathtaking landscapes. Nestled in the beautiful valley that shares its name, this town stretches from the coast all the way up to the peaks of Teide, covering 70% of Teide National Park. So if you’re into hiking trails and mountainous views, this is the place for you!
The best way to approach the Valley of La Orotava is from up high, even if it means veering off the comfy highway and adding some extra kilometers and minutes to your journey today. The TF 21 runs along a good stretch of Tenerife’s northern face, connecting the main towns in the area.
The Mirador de Humboldt is, hands down, one of the prettiest viewpoints on the island and the best way to take in the Valley of La Orotava. Here, you’ll not only catch a panoramic view stretching from the peaks of El Teide to the beach at Puerto de la Cruz, but you’ll also realize that the northern part of Tenerife is missing something: a big chunk of the island!

Must-see things in La Orotava:
Historic Center: Stroll through its cobblestone streets and check out the Church of San Agustín, the Taoro Liceum, and the House of Balconies. Every corner has its charm and shares stories from the glorious past of wine trading.
Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción: Known as the best example of Baroque architecture in the Canaries, it’s often called the “Cathedral of Orotava.” It’s a must-visit spot for architecture buffs and history lovers alike!
Molinos de Agua: A nod to the agricultural past of the area. These mills are part of a “water path” that used to power the milling industry in the region.
Traditional Festivals: If you’re lucky, you might catch the celebrations of Corpus Christi or the Romería de San Isidro Labrador, events that showcase the best of Canary Island culture.
