Friday, February 27 — Granadilla Town
The carnival kicks off with the Gran Gala de Elección de la Reina — the Queen Election Gala — at 9pm in Parque de Los Hinojeros. Comparsas from across the municipality perform alongside a special set from Neo Pinto. Hosted by Gracia López. Free entry.
Saturday, February 28 — Granadilla Town
The Gran Coso Apoteosis (the big main parade) winds through the historic town centre from 5:30pm, starting on Avenida Mencey de Abona and finishing at Parque de Los Hinojeros. Eight comparsas and batucadas light up the route: Kuliquitacas del Sur, Los Guajeiros, Aborasau, Son de Abona, Los Joroperos, Los Cariocas, Batucada Baraberé and Batucada Tamatimba.
There’s also a costume contest during the parade — prizes include a ferry trip to La Gomera (individual), a hotel night at Hotel Médano (couple), and catering for 10 at Neptuno Médano (group). After the parade: Gran Verbena Carnavalera with Grupo Paraíso, Grupo Pasión, and Orquesta Wamampy.

Sunday, March 1 — El Médano + Los Abrigos
El Médano gets its first carnival taste early. At 11:30am, the Pasacalles Inaugural parade kicks off from Plaza Magallanes (the red square) heading to Plaza de El Médano with the three main comparsas. From midday to 2pm: Carnaval de Día Infantil — kids’ costume contest, activities, DJ David Pérez and Olga González. Great if you’re travelling with family.
Meanwhile over in Los Abrigos at 5pm, there’s a Cabalgata del Carnaval with the comparsas, followed by a Baile de Máscaras with Grupo Aparrandados.

Friday, March 6 — San Isidro
Encuentro Murguero at Plaza de la Cultura from 7pm — three murgas performing: Guachinquietas, Diablos Locos, and Irónicos. Murgas are Tenerife’s version of satirical singing groups and they’re genuinely funny, even if your Spanish is pretty basic. Presented by Gilberto Isande.

This is the one. From 11:30am to 3am the next day, Plaza de El Médano transforms into the best free party in southern Tenerife.
At 11:30am the Pasacalles Inaugural opens things up — comparsas parade from Plaza Magallanes to the main plaza. From noon to 2pm, the kids’ program runs with activities, costume contest, and DJ.

The Entierro de la Sardina at 7pm is the emotional centrepiece of the whole carnival. A mock funeral procession for a giant sardine — handmade by students at IES Magallanes — marches from Plaza de El Médano to the football field, officially closing out carnival season 2026. It’s absurd, theatrical, and very Canarian. Wear black or mourning drag for full participation points.
After the sardine burns… the party runs until 3am anyway. Because that’s El Médano. 🤷

You have to dress up — you’ll feel totally out of place without at least something. Minimum effort: a wig and some face paint. This year’s theme is “México Lindo y Querido” so Día de los Muertos makeup, sombreros, and colourful dresses are all fair game and you’ll fit right in.
For the Entierro de la Sardina at 7pm, the move is black dress + black veil as a “widow” mourning the sardine. Gender completely irrelevant — this is carnival. Los Cristianos and nearby towns have cheap costume shops, and Chinese bazaars stock full outfits for €20-50.
