Day-by-day breakdown
Thursday, March 5 — Opening Night
8:30 pm · Infanta Leonor Auditorium, Los Cristianos
This is where the magic officially starts. The Opening Ceremony introduces all the queen candidates — for the Children’s crown, the Senior crown, and the main Carnival Queen — in a full theatrical spectacle. Comparsas Los Playeritos, Ritmo Sureño, K’Nadum, and Imperio Ashá take the stage alongside choreography groups from the local Culture Board and Ballet Beanky. The night wraps up with the debut performance of the official 2026 Carnival anthem, sung by Kiara Comellas. Hosts for the evening are Wendy Fuentes and Pedro Machín.
It’s a proper show — elaborate costumes, live performances, and the kind of energy that makes you realize this isn’t just a party, it’s a whole cultural production. Getting here early is a good call.
Friday, March 6 — Comparsa Competition
9:00 pm · Carnival Grounds (Bulevar Chajofe), Los Cristianos
Comparsas are the heart of Canarian carnival — large dance groups in matching, incredibly elaborate costumes performing choreographed routines to original music. This is the night they compete. Each group has been rehearsing their 2026 space-themed number for months. The star guest? King África, the legendary artist behind La Bomba, performing live. Hosted by Gracias López.
Even if you’ve never heard of comparsas before, you’ll be blown away. The level of craft and theatricality is genuinely something else.

Saturday, March 7 — First Daytime Carnival + Announcement Parade
6:00 pm (Daytime Carnival) · Carnival Grounds, Bulevar Chajofe 7:00 pm (Parade) · Playa de las Américas seafront
The weekend kicks off with the first outdoor street carnival — music, dancing, and atmosphere from 6 pm with artists Virginia Guantanamera, Los Grandes Éxitos del Morocho, orchestra Tropin, and Swing Latino.
Then at 7 pm, the action moves to the seafront for the Cabalgata Anunciadora — the official announcement parade. Murgas, comparsas, musical groups, and carnival characters wind their way along the Playa de las Américas promenade from the Gala Shopping Centre (Av. Rafael Puig Lluvina) all the way to the Oasis Shopping Centre (Av. Las Américas). Afternoon sunshine, ocean backdrop, people in wild costumes — this is southern Tenerife carnival at its most photogenic.
Sunday, March 8 — Murgas Gathering
6:00 pm · Carnival Grounds (Bulevar Chajofe), Los Cristianos
Murgas are satirical singing groups — think a choir that roasts everything from local politics to celebrity gossip, all set to original music with elaborate costumes. It’s basically stand-up comedy meets musical theatre, and it’s one of the most distinctly Canarian things you’ll experience at carnival. Groups performing include Diabólicas, Diablos Locos, Tiralenguas, Bambones, and Trapaseros, among others.
You don’t need to speak perfect Spanish to enjoy it — the energy, timing, and crowd reactions tell the story.

Monday, March 9 — Choreography Festival + Exhibition Opening
5:30 pm · Exhibition Opening, Los Cristianos Cultural Centre hall 6:30 pm · Choreography Groups Festival, Carnival Grounds (Bulevar Chajofe)
A slightly more relaxed Monday. The afternoon kicks off with the opening of the Carnival Exhibition — a showcase of this year’s costumes and creative work, curated by Laly González — at the Cultural Centre. Worth 20 minutes of your time.
Then from 6:30 pm, the Choreography Groups Festival takes over the main grounds. Dance groups from across the municipality and other parts of the island compete in their carnival routines. Hosted by Patricia Polegre.
Tuesday, March 10 — Senior Queen Gala
8:00 pm · Carnival Grounds (Bulevar Chajofe), Los Cristianos
Don’t let the “senior” label fool you — this gala is a serious event. Older participants from across the municipality compete for the Senior Carnival Queen title in full costumes and with full theatrical productions behind them. The night includes performances by Ballet Baila Pa Mí, the official carnival anthem by Kiara Comellas, singer Pepe Benavente, and special guest Helena Bianco. Hosted by Daida Reyes and Alberto Castilla.
This is one of those events that ends up being way more emotional and impressive than you expected.
Wednesday, March 11 — Inclusion Parade + Children’s Queen Gala
10:30 am (Inclusion Parade) · Los Cristianos coastal promenade 8:00 pm (Children’s Gala) · Carnival Grounds (Bulevar Chajofe)
The morning belongs to the community. The Pasacalle de la Inclusión brings together schools and educational centres from across the south of the island for a parade along the full Los Cristianos seafront — from Paseo Calarredes (near Gran Hotel Arona) along the bay promenade, through Av. Juan Alfonso Batista, to Plaza de la Pescadora and the Casa del Mar. Great atmosphere, lots of colour, genuinely moving to watch.
The evening switches to the kids — the Children’s Queen Gala crowns the carnival queen for the younger age group, with performances by Ballet Beanky, Los Playeritos, gymnastics groups, and more. Hosted by Carolina Hernández.

Thursday, March 12 — Grand Queen Election Gala ⭐
8:30 pm · Carnival Grounds (Bulevar Chajofe), Los Cristianos
This is the night. The Grand Queen Election Gala — themed “El Espacio rumbo a otra Galaxia” — is the centrepiece of the entire carnival. Each queen candidate performs a full theatrical production: original music, choreography, a costume that often takes hundreds of hours to build, and a complete artistic concept. The best ones are genuinely breathtaking. All the major comparsas perform, alongside Ballet Beanky, Kiara Comellas, and more.
If you only make it to one indoor gala, this is the one. Get to the grounds early — it fills up. Hosted by Yanely Hernández.
Friday, March 13 — Drag Queen Show
6:00 pm · Patio, Los Cristianos Cultural Centre(Seniors’ Dance) 8:30 pm · Carnival Grounds (Bulevar Chajofe)(Drag Queen Show) 11:30 pm · Carnival Grounds + Plaza del Pescador(Grand Dance + DJ area)
Friday the 13th is the wildest night of the week. The evening opens with the Seniors’ Dance — a more relaxed afternoon event at the Cultural Centre patio.
Then from 8:30 pm: the Drag Queen Show. This is one of the most celebrated events of the entire carnival season. Performers include drag artists and transformistas from across the Canary Islands, with star act Divas con Roser headlining. Hosted by Tomás Galván and Shetlas. The standard is seriously high — elaborate performances, runway-level costumes, and an electrifying crowd.
From 11:30 pm, two simultaneous parties keep things going: live orchestras Wamampy and Maquinaria Band at the Carnival Grounds, and a DJ area in Plaza del Pescador outside the Cultural Centre.
Saturday, March 14 — Second Daytime Carnival + Beach Route 🎭
3:00 pm (Second Daytime Carnival) · Carnival Grounds, Bulevar Chajofe 3:00 pm (Family Day) · Plaza de La Pescadora and main streets 7:00 pm (Costume Contest) · Plaza de La Pescadora 9:00 pm (XII Beach Route) · Los Cristianos seafront circuit
Saturday is the big day for street carnival energy. From 3 pm, the Carnival Grounds host the Second Daytime Carnival with national and international artists — El Morocho with his Añoranzas de mi viejo Carnaval show, a Marc Anthony tribute Yo Marc, Fresto Salsa, Monterrojo, Manny Manuel, and orchestras Nueva Línea, Maracaibo, and Caracas. Hosted by Aíran Fernández.
Simultaneously, Plaza de La Pescadora runs the Family Day Carnival — workshops, performances, and carnival activities for kids and families.
At 7 pm, the Costume Contest judges the best outfits of the day at Plaza de La Pescadora.
Then at 9 pm — the unmissable XII Ruta Playera (Beach Route). Costumed groups parade through a circuit along Los Cristianos’ main streets (from Plaza de la Pescadora through Plaza de la Alpispa, Calle Juan Reverón Sierra, and Av. Los Playeros, ending back at Plaza del Pescador). At the finish line: the Óscar Hernández awards for the most original, most horrifying, and most outrageous costumes. After midnight: Grand Dance with orchestras Maracaibo, Caracas, and Nueva Línea back at the Carnival Grounds.
Sunday, March 15 — Gran Coso Apoteosis (Main Parade) 🚀
11:00 am (Car Show) · Carnival Grounds, Bulevar Chajofe 4:00 pm (Gran Coso Apoteosis) · Juan Carlos I Ave → Cultural Centre 8:00 pm (Grand Dance) · Carnival Grounds, Bulevar Chajofe
Sunday afternoon is the climax of the visual spectacle. The Gran Coso Apoteosis is the main carnival parade — all the comparsas, murgas, musical groups, choreography groups, and carnival characters in their full costumes, parading from the Paloma Beach apartments on Av. Juan Carlos I all the way to the Los Cristianos Cultural Centre. Around 125,000 people typically come out for this across the full eleven days, and the Sunday parade is the peak. Get there early and claim your spot along the route.
Morning is the Classic & Vintage Car Show at the Carnival Grounds if you want something low-key before the parade. Evening closes with a Grand Dance featuring El Gran Combo Dominicano and Sabrosa.

Monday, March 16 — Burial of the Sardine (Closing Night) 🐟
9:00 pm (Burial of the Sardine) · Plaza del Pescador → Los Cristianos Beach 11:00 pm (Widow’s Dance) · Plaza del Pescador
Every carnival ends the same way in the Canary Islands: with the Entierro de la Sardina — the Burial of the Sardine. A mock funeral procession for a giant papier-mâché sardine, complete with mourners in black, theatrical weeping, and an atmosphere that somehow manages to be both hilarious and genuinely bittersweet. The procession walks from Plaza del Pescador (Cultural Centre) to Los Cristianos beach, where the sardine is ceremonially burned.
After the sardine goes up in flames, the Widow’s Dance takes over Plaza del Pescador — a final party with local DJs, everyone dressed in black mourning drag, dancing until the early hours. It’s the end of carnival, and nobody goes home happy about it.
Venues & how to get around
The carnival is spread across two main zones in Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas, about 10–15 minutes apart on foot:
Carnival Grounds (Recinto del Carnaval) — Bulevar Chajofe, Los Cristianos. The main hub. This is where all the galas, competitions, and late-night dances happen. A proper outdoor stage setup with a large standing area.
Plaza de La Pescadora & Plaza del Pescador (Cultural Centre) — Los Cristianos. The second main area for the Beach Route, Family Day, costume contest, and the Burial of the Sardine.
Playa de las Américas seafront (Golden Mile). The parade route for the Announcement Parade on March 7. About 15 minutes walking north from Los Cristianos.
Infanta Leonor Auditorium, Los Cristianos. Only used for the Opening Night on March 5.
Getting around is easy — Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas are walkable, and TITSA buses connect the whole south. Traffic restrictions are in place during parade days, so if you’re driving, plan ahead or just walk.
Costumes, budget & practical tips
Dress up. You’ll feel out of place without at least something. Locals often have five or six costumes across the full carnival season. You don’t need to go crazy — Chinese shops and supermarkets throughout Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos sell complete costumes for €20–50 and accessories for €5–15. Minimum effort: wig + fun sunglasses. For the Burial of the Sardine specifically: black outfit + veil, regardless of gender.
Budget breakdown. Street food runs €5–10 (bocadillos, churros). Local beers (Dorada, Tropical) cost €2–4 at street stalls. Restaurant meals €8–15 for budget spots. All carnival events are completely free — no tickets, no entry fees, nothing.
Weather. Southern Tenerife in March: 21–23°C during the day, 14–17°C in the evenings. You’ll want a light layer for late nights but won’t need anything heavy. Rain chance is low — significantly drier and warmer than the north of the island.
Safety & practical stuff. Keep your phone and valuables secure in crowded areas. Late-night public transport runs during carnival. WhatsApp is your friend for last-minute updates from local groups.
