Tenerife – Discover the Island

Tenerife – What’s the island got to offer?

Tenerife is a stunning island with so much to offer, starting with the natural parks, cultural activities, family-friendly excursions, and of course, the amazing beaches.

We’re talking about the largest and most populated island in the Canaries (and all of Spain). It’s famous for its tourism, affordable prices, and especially the stunning nature it has to offer.

The south of the island is the most touristy and laid-back, with beaches, clubs, and nightlife; while in the north, tourism focuses on nature and excursions (not to downplay the northern beaches). You can really notice the difference in climate and vegetation – the south is hot, dry, and sandy; the north is cooler, wetter, and lush.
That said, the temperature stays mild year-round (within ± 5°C, depending on the season) and usually doesn’t stray far from 20ºC. These two microclimates are thanks to the presence of El Teide , which stands at 3,718 meters high and influences cloud cover and rainfall. Fun fact: this volcano is the third highest when measured from its base on the ocean floor.

Words just can’t capture the true beauty of the island. That’s why you should drop by one of the Nest Hostels and see it for yourself!

Tenerife – What to See?

There are so many things to see in Tenerife! As mentioned before, the island is packed with natural beauty, like:

  • The Teide National Park
You’ve gotta check this place out for at least a day when you’re in Tenerife. The landscapes, the crater, and the flora will blow your mind! It’s no wonder it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
  • The Teno Park
This rural park is probably the best spot to experience the culture, landscape, and natural heritage of Tenerife. Its remote location makes it perfect for a peaceful day, letting you dive into a stunning green beauty that’s hard to find anywhere else.
  • Villa de Masca
Masca is a small, secluded, and picturesque village perched high up on the northwest coast. The peaceful vibe only gets a little shake-up from the 11th to the 17th, when Masca comes alive!
  • Drago Milenario Park
The Drago Milenario is the living symbol of the island. This tree, around 800 years old, stands 18 meters tall with a trunk circumference of 20 meters. And the rest of the park is just as thrilling! You can check out a burial site of the island’s aboriginal people and spend the rest of your day in the lush picnic area.
  • Cueva del Viento
Have you ever been inside a volcanic tube? If the answer’s “no,” this is your chance to dive into an adventure to the center of the Earth on a two-hour guided tour, exploring an amazing volcanic cavity.

An island to live on!

There are so many awesome activities to do on the island, all tied to its unique geography.
You can do it all! For instance, there are guided tours from the south coast where you can spot whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. Golf is also super popular; in fact, there are plenty of courses available for both pros (who really appreciate it) and amateurs looking to try it out for the first time.

Surfing in Tenerife is super popular! The beaches, both in the north and the south, are packed with surfers and surf schools, perfect for anyone wanting to dive into this awesome water sport for the first time.

Without mentioning that there’s a huge food culture in Tenerife: you can’t miss trying the mojo sauce, dishes made with gofio, and the tasty little Canarian potatoes – those colorful gems from the archipelago. And why not grab a bottle of Dorada, the go-to beer in Tenerife? If you’re looking for a homely vibe, check out the typical tavern-style restaurants called “guachinches,” often found in local homes (usually in their cellars); you’ll get to savor the island’s homemade flavors and some fantastic locally produced wine.

But above all, Tenerife is famous and loved for its hiking and biking trips. And for the stunning landscapes that anyone can discover.

There’s something for everyone. Come check out the Nest Hostel to truly experience the island!
