El Bollullo beach is a stunning hidden gem.
El Bollullo Beach is one of the most beautiful and natural spots in Tenerife. Located in the El Rincón area, in the municipality of La Orotava/Puerto de la Cruz, it features stunning black sand that’s volcanic in origin. This beach is perfect for unplugging from the city noise and soaking up some nature.
How to get to Bollullo Beach?
El Bollullo beach is just four kilometers east of Puerto de la Cruz, one of the main tourist spots in northern Tenerife. To get to this hidden cove, you can take a scenic path that starts from Puerto de la Cruz or drive there.
Take a stroll from Puerto de la Cruz along a trail that’ll take you about 45 minutes.
From the main road, you’ll need to navigate a series of narrow, winding streets that lead to the beach. These paths can be tricky since they’re only wide enough for one car at a time. But trust me, the views along the way are stunning, with banana plantations and captivating cliffs offering a truly unique driving experience.
At the end of the street, you’ll find El Bollullo restaurant, where you can park your car for just 3 euros. If you’re looking to take a break for a bite or a drink, this place has amazing sea views and a really nice vibe.
Head down to El Bollullo Beach!
From the El Bollullo restaurant (on the Rincón road) and the parking area, a path leads you to El Bollullo beach. There are some stairs along the way, but the walk is pretty easy and takes about 10 minutes.
What to expect at El Bollullo Beach
Once you get to El Bollullo, take a few minutes to soak in the beauty of this black sand beach, surrounded by towering cliffs and a cozy, relaxing vibe. The sand is super fine and feels great underfoot, while the water is crystal clear and perfect for a swim.
At the beach, you’ll find all sorts of handy services like trash bins, cleaning, phone access, a bar, and a restaurant. You can also rent sunbeds and umbrellas. Just a heads up, though—there’s no access for people with disabilities.
However, it’s super important to pay attention to the currents and waves, which can sometimes get pretty strong and dangerous. We recommend not straying too far from the shore.

Getting Here: You can walk or drive!
Services: phone, bars and restaurants, plus you can rent sunbeds, parasols, and hammocks!
Parking: Yep, we’ve got it (less than fifty spots) for just 3 euros!
Continuing along the Bollullo beach, you’ll also find Playa de los Patos and Playa de Ancón. Instead of heading down to Bollullo, keep to the right. Important: this path isn’t suitable for kids. In about 15 minutes, you’ll reach Playa del Pozo, but be careful—it can get pretty dangerous when the sea is rough. Cross this beach, and in just a few minutes, you’ll hit the much busier Playa de Los Patos, which is popular with campers and nudists. It’s not a good idea to continue to the next beach, Ancón, since the route can be really risky.
