El Médano is mainly known as a hotspot for windsurfing, surfing, and kitesurfing.
This medium-sized coastal town has a harbor, several beaches, hotels, and restaurants, including our own Medano Nest Hostel.
On the outskirts of the town, you’ll find the cave of Santo Hermano Pedro, where St. Peter of Betancur lived for a while. It’s a pilgrimage sanctuary.

Cueva del Hermano Pedro is a must-visit! This stunning cave is not just a natural wonder but also has a deep historical significance. You’ll feel the magic of the place as you explore its beauty and learn about its fascinating past. Perfect for those looking to connect with nature and history in one go! Don’t miss out!
Right by the parking lot for Montaña Roja, you’ll find the entrance to the Cueva del Hermano Pedro. This spot is a religious site that draws about 300,000 visitors every year, all paying their respects and asking for favors from the first Canarian saint, Pedro de San José Betancur. The cave is recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site and is usually open to the public. What makes it even cooler is its location right at the edge of the Tenerife Sur airport, so you’ll catch planes flying by while you soak in the vibes!

Water sports in El Médano
As we’ve been saying, if you love water sports like windsurfing or kitesurfing, then this is your ideal destination. But that’s not all—stand up paddle, bodyboarding, surfing, and snorkeling round out the list of things to do in El Médano. There’s no time to get bored (and no chance of going home without a killer tan).

Hiking in El Médano
You can’t visit El Médano without noticing the stunning Montaña Roja in the background. This volcano stands out with its 171 meters of height, its rusty red color from volcanic material oxidation, and its unique position jutting into the sea, separating the beaches of El Médano and La Tejita.
