El Medano is mostly known as a windsurfing, surfing and kitesurfing center.
This medium-sized coastal town has a puerto, several beaches, hotels and restaurants, as well as our own Medano Nest Hostel .
On the outskirts of the town is the cave of Santo Hermano Pedro, where San Pedro de Betancur lived for a time. It is a pilgrimage sanctuary.
Brother Pedro's Cave
In front of the parking lot for the ascent to Montaña Roja we find the access to the Cueva del Hermano Pedro, a place of religious worship through which some 300,000 parishioners pass annually to pay tribute and ask for favors to the first Canarian saint, Pedro de San José Betancur. The cave, considered an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC), is usually open to the public and its enclave is quite peculiar as it is located right at the head of Tenerife South Airport so you will continually see airplanes passing by.
Water sports in El Médano
As we have been saying if you like water sports like wind or kitesurfing this is your ideal destination. But not only that, stand up paddle, bodyboarding, surfing and snorkeling complete the menu of things to do in El Medano. There is no time to get bored (and no option to go home without a good tan).
Hiking in El Médano
It is impossible to visit El Médano without the fantastic presence of Montaña Roja in the background. The Montaña Roja volcano is easily recognizable thanks to its 171 meters high, its red color due to the oxidation of volcanic materials and its location, going into the sea and separating the beaches of El Médano and La Tejita.
