2. La Matanza de Acentejo
Nestled in the heart of Tenerife, La Matanza de Acentejo is a charming village that’s definitely worth a visit. With its stunning views of the ocean and lush landscapes, you’ll feel the authentic Canarian vibe as you stroll through its picturesque streets. Grab a bite at one of the local eateries, and don’t forget to snap some pics of the breathtaking scenery. Whether you’re looking to relax or explore, this hidden gem has something for everyone!
The history of the municipality kicks off in 1494 with the battle in the barranco de Acentejo, known as the Matanza de Acentejo. Here, the guanches took down the conquistadors by using their knowledge of the terrain and the guidance of their leader, Bencomo de Taoro. Even captain Alonso Fernández de Lugo had to pause the invasion for a bit. After the conquest, the area we now know as La Matanza became one of the most populated spots around.
Right now, the coastline of La Matanza is dotted with some lovely chalet developments alongside the local wineries where you can taste the fantastic wine from the area. Up towards the summit, there’s a recreational area called La Vica, which is perfect for organizing a picnic or a day out with family and friends.

La Victoria de Acentejo is a charming municipality located in the northwest of Tenerife, covering an area of 18.36 km². The scenery here is all about rural vibes and agriculture, with plenty of cereal fields, banana plantations, and vineyards. The wine production in this area is among the most significant in the north of the island, proudly falling under the Tacoronte-Acentejo designation.
The town gets its name from the second Battle of Acentejo, where the conquerors defeated the Guanches, marking the end of the conquest of the Canaries. To celebrate the victory in this battle, Alonso Fernández de Lugo built a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Victory, which was replaced by a sturdier temple in 1578. Not long after, it became a pretty populated area, with small settlements relying on agriculture and livestock, which isn’t as important today. The town has a rich artisan tradition in pottery and lacework, mostly done by women, along with the famous Victorian chairs.
