United Airlines announces direct flights from New York to Tenerife

In line with the trend of sun and beach destinations, United is launching its fourth destination to Spain. It will begin service between Newark (EWR) and Tenerife (TFS) with three flights a week with Boeing 757-200s.

These are two routes not previously served by any other North American airline.

United Airlines has made public its international flight schedule for 2022 and one of the main novelties is that the U.S. airline will offer non-stop direct flights from Newark Airport in New York to the Canary Islands (Tenerife South).

The flights, which are still subject to approval by the authorities, would be as follows:

Starting June 2, 2022, it will connect three times a week the New York airport with Tenerife South, in the Canary Islands. The service will be operated by a Boeing 757-200 with capacity for 169 passengers.

New York airports are a real hub, just like Madrid or Barcelona. New York has a very important population concentration area and, in terms of distance from Tenerife, purchasing power, airport connectivity with all of North America... It meets many of the requirements that we saw as essential and that makes it the best gateway to the Canary Islands and even to grow in the future and look to Canada. We had an unsuccessful precedent, which was Miami, a flight that was operated with Air Europa about 10 years ago and did not prosper. So, looking north, to New York, seemed to us to be strategically more viable than the other attempts we had made.

The flight time will be approximately 7 hours and the flight capacity will be 169 people per flight, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 12:00 noon from Tenerife, returning on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 9:50 p.m. (U.S. local time).
