Tenerife – The island’s pyramids<\/h2>\n\n

In the southeast of Tenerife, about 24 km from Santa Cruz, you’ll find one of the island’s coolest mysteries: the pyramids of Guimar.<\/p>\n\n

In front of these mysterious buildings, those who think Tenerife is just about beaches, sun, sea, and nightlife need to think again: these impressive structures pose a real puzzle, even for the most experienced scholars.<\/p>\n\n

The pyramids, with their six stepped layers, are astronomically aligned to cast a cone of shadow during the summer and winter solstices. They\u2019re made from carved lava stones and look a lot like those you\u2019d find in Egypt, Mesopotamia, and especially Latin America.<\/p>\n\n

The Tenerife Pyramid Park<\/h2>\n\n

No matter where the pyramids come from, there’s no doubt they’re truly fascinating structures. Visiting them is definitely worth it, especially since they\u2019re located in what\u2019s now an ethnographic park.<\/p>\n\n

The park, besides being the archaeological site of the pyramids, has a museum, a navigation room, an auditorium, a restaurant, and a bar. The museum features fascinating exhibits showing the connections between America and Europe before Columbus, and in the auditorium, you can catch 15-minute films illustrating Heyerdahl’s theories.<\/p>\n\n
