The cliffs of Los Gigantes, on the southwest coast of Tenerife, are one of the island’s most breathtaking and popular spots, plus they’re super warm!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Check out these stunning basalt cliffs that are made from volcanic rock, soaring above the Atlantic Ocean. They rise between 300 and 600 meters high and stretch for 10 kilometers<\/strong>. The seabed below these dramatic cliffs dives to depths of 30-40 meters, creating a safe haven for endangered marine life like fish eagles and giant sea turtles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

The charming little town Puerto de Santiago, home to our Arena Nest Hostel<\/a>,<\/strong> used to be a fishing village and now boasts a lovely tourist harbor. Every day, you can hop on boat excursions that let you spot dolphins and other cetaceans<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

In the village, you’ll find loads of cozy shops, cafes, and restaurants, plus a stunning little black sand beach, Playa Los Guios. Here, it’s possible to rent kayaks and stand-up paddle boards or just swim and snorkel<\/a> in the crystal-clear water<\/strong>, all while being surrounded by the breathtaking cliffs of Los Gigantes.<\/p>\n\n

You definitely don\u2019t want to miss the sunset in Los Gigantes<\/strong>. Depending on when you catch it, you can see the sun dip into the sea or over the neighboring island of La Gomera<\/strong>. And at certain times of the year, there’s a really cool phenomenon where the sun looks like it’s setting way above the horizon<\/strong>. That\u2019s because, thanks to light refraction, you can actually see the sun setting behind the mountains of La Palma<\/strong>, but you won\u2019t see the island itself since it’s quite a distance away.<\/p>\n\n

To top it all off, in the village of Puerto de Santiago\/Los Gigantes, the oldest and most celebrated carnival in South Tenerife is held every year<\/strong>. It happens in February, one week after the <\/strong>Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival<\/strong> <\/a>, with celebrations and parades winding through the village that bring to life the island\u2019s historical costumes and traditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

You can easily reach Los Gigantes by public transport, and if you’re cruising around in a rental car, just take the TF-1 highway from the south to get to those epic cliffs on your own.<\/p>\n\n
