As one of the smallest islands in the Canaries, with just 21,789 residents, La Gomera is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and sits to the west of the archipelago. San Sebasti\u00e1n de La Gomera is the capital. It’s been a Biosphere Reserve since 2012. With temperatures ranging from 15 to 28 degrees all year round, this tiny island of just 369.76 km\u00b2 is a spot you can’t miss exploring.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Garajonay. The heart and highest point of La Gomera at 1487m<\/strong> above sea level. It\u2019s been a National Park since March 25, 1981. You’ll find a ton of moss, ferns, and lichens covering the tree trunks, showing off the high humidity and great air quality in this space.<\/strong> 120 is the number of endemic plant species from the Canary Islands you can discover in the park.<\/strong> Plus, it’s a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA<\/strong>). You might spot the Paloma Turqu\u00e9 and the Paloma Rabiche among the endemics.<\/p>\n\n

Other awards recognizing this natural paradise include World Heritage status since 1986, and the silbo gomero, a whistled language passed down from the indigenous gomeros<\/strong>, which has also been a World Heritage site since 2009. Feloch\u00e9, a well-known French artist, brings this unique island language to life with a single called Silbo<\/strong>. It’s said that Christopher Columbus stocked up on supplies and food for his crew right here on his journey to America<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

The cultivation of papaya, avocado, mango, and banana are cornerstones of this tropical island’s economy.<\/strong> You’ll also find potato farming for the self-sufficiency of the locals through agriculture<\/strong> really impressive. Another typical product from the livestock sector is fresh and cured goat cheese, still made the old-fashioned way.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

From La Gomera, you can catch an amazing view of Tenerife<\/strong>, right in front of its southern part. You can admire the stunning cliffs of Los Gigantes<\/a><\/strong>, and the beautiful Costa Adeje<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n
